Motorcycle Applications and the PlanetSafe Universal Turn Signal Daytime Running Light (DRL) system...

Motorcycle that a citizen has modified, producing identical results to the AllQuality PlanetSafe DRL-2005 product - Picture 1 shows its typically pulse-activated-only turn signal/hazard lights "Off".

Bright turn signal lights activated for increased collision avoidance safety  (Turn signal bulbs on automobiles are required by law to be, at a minimum, 2-1/2 times brighter than parking light bulbs.)

In the dark w/ bright turn signal filaments energized - motorcycle injuries and deaths could potentially be reduced if motorcycles used this device because amber light is more noticeable than white light, as photometric analysis data PROVES... (also see comments below).

Did you know that motorcycles are the 2nd most fatally dangerous method of human transportation? Only travel in experimental or home built aircraft is more dangerous, from a loss-of-life perspective.

Here are the statistics: Fatalities due to homebuilt/experimental aircraft transportation - 1 in 25; Fatalities due to motorcycle transportation - 1 in 25.4

Australia's foremost authority on Daytime Running Lights, Australian automotive engineer
Michael Paine, is studying the potential benefits of turn signal energized daytime running lights on the average motorcycle for the Australian roads. Below is a digitally enhanced photo of what these may look like on the open road. His site has an animation utilizing the photo below and illustrating the difference between ordinary turn signals and bright DRL turn signals on a motorcycle. (The animation is activated by clicking on the same picture shown at his website.) Note that turn signal energized DRLs are not legal for motorcycles in Australia at this time.

Some comments from Mr. Paine's research are quoted below: {Used by permission}

"Many cars in the USA use bright front turn signals as DRLs. I have suggested that
motorcycles should do the same. A key point is that most effectiveness studies are based on a large proportion of vehicles with low beam headlight DRLs, but photometric analysis suggests that these are only marginally effective on all but very dull days. Recent U.S. research on several types of daytime running lights used in General Motors cars has shown that bright turn signal DRLs are more effective than headlight DRLs..."

In the U.S. in 2004 alone, 4008 motorcyclists died in traffic according to figures released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Motorcycle safety is a global problem and is likely to increase worldwide as ridership increases, due to soaring gasoline and diesel prices.

In 2004, 111 motorcyclists died on roads in our home state of Georgia alone:

1) Experts say daytime visibility is a key issue, if not the key issue.

2) Most motorcycle crashes occur during daytime hours, and

3) Over two-thirds of all car-motorcycle crashes are caused by drivers of other motor vehicles, not by motorcyclists.

AMBER DRLs can help save lives on scooters and mopeds also!

Use of white light Daytime Running Lights for motorized two-wheelers led to a 15% reduction in fatal daytime crashes in Singapore!

Imagine what reductions photometrically superior AMBER DRLs could yield...

Being a dual function safety device for motorcycles, AllQuality's PlanetSafe DRL-2005 product employed as Rear Auxiliary Brake Lighting makes motorcycles
safer as approached from behind while braking...

The PlanetSafe DRL-2005 product also converts a motorcycle's rear turn signal lamps into auxiliary or supplemental rear brake lights. It energizes three rear brake lights when the brakes are applied instead of one center brake light while allowing the right and left side rear turn signal lamps to retain their turn signal functioning at all times.

A similar feature is active on every Cobb County Georgia police motorcycle, helping to keep motorists from running up on the back of a motorcycle officer while he or she is stopped at a traffic light.

(The above picture is actually a crash dummy whose motorcycle is slammed from the rear...)

This feature was once available only for certain brands of motorcycles, but now is available for every make and model of motorcycle with the basic PlanetSafe DRL-2005 product.

(US Pat. 7019463 and other US and International patents pending)
